Tal como lo dicen mis colegas, la palabra viene de "arachis hypogea", que define al maní, también llamado cacahuate, cacahuete, según la región geográfica. ¿Cuál usar? Piensa por favor en el receptor de tu traducción, si vive en Argentina, México, Venezuela, España, etc. Creo que "maní" es más general, pero los tres términos son válidos.
