English term or phrase: FD&C Red Dye
Hi everybody ... I'm working on some labels for a biochemicals product line to be marketed in Latin America. I'm not sure how to translate "F D & C Red Dye" into Spanish, or whether it should even be translated at all, since it pertains to the United States Food, Drugs & Cosmetics Act that brought the FDA into being. Would there be a similar acronym in Spanish? Thanks for your help. Mary

Spanish translation:Colorante Rojo FD&C
Explanation:
Yes, Red Dye should be translated, not FD&C, as importers are the ones that need to comply with US regulations, and the US regulations are written in English, although... you should go to the FDA website (www.fda.gov), and check, because I think I went in recently and saw that they HAD translated the FD&C Act, so you might want to stick with the terminology they might be using.

A big thank you and nod of appreciation to everyone who offered an answer, but especially to the former FDA
spokesperson. The number of the dye was not provided to me by my client, simply the words "FD&C Red Dye,"
which was why I did not mention the number. I intend to discuss this with the client. Thanks so much to everyone,
again, for all your help. Best, Mary

Hi Mary

Explanation:
I would translate as follows:

FDC Red Dye (Tinte Rojo de la Administración de Alimentos, Medicamentos y Cosméticos).

Good luck.

In Mexico there is no similar entity.

rojo oscuro FD&C

Explanation:
There are *several* FD&C red dyes (2, 4 and 40)!!! So be careful how you translate them. They all would fit more or less under *rojo oscuro*

Explanation:
Hola Mary,

Se suele traducir, pero como ya alguien lo mencionó antes, es muy importante incluir el número del color.
