What to watch for when planning
While creating or modifying a flight plan, pay attention to the following issues:
■ When you change a value, other values always change as well
■ Spot spacing/density (Desired Res, Cross Track Res, Down Track Res) are critical parameters that
must be maintained at the required project resolution
■ Terrain height variations can cause coverage gaps: if possible, import a digital elevation model
(DEM) and simulate data collection to discover and correct possible gaps
■ When surveying varied terrain such as mountains or ridgelines, always fly along the contour lines,
and not across them
■ Out of range values (displayed on a red background) must be brought within allowable ranges by
changing related parameters
■ Turn times can add significantly to the total air time: always consider the order of flying the lines,
that is, sequential dogbone vs. Zamboni ("Flight line patterns and flying conditions"‚ page 234)
