I believe they are talking about a log book. My husband has been an aircraft mechanic for 35 years. In the Military and now with the U.S. Marshal Service (where I also work). Everything that needs to be done to an aircraft, maintenancewise is written down in the log book, procedure by procedure, with that particular aircraft tail number. At the end of the shift, they sign off (sign their name) the items they fixed. They also write notes on what needs to be done,things to watch out for, parts on order and so forth. When the next shift comes in, my husband gives them a rundown of the maintenance done on each aircraft and where they left off. Then all they have to do is read the entries in the log book and see where the previous shift left off and what needs to be done. They in turn do the same. I mean they enter all the maintenance they did into the log book. So that each shift is informed.
