Several emerging materials that provide a 50% weight reduction in the building blocks for mine ventilation stoppings have been developed. However, these lightweight material constructions have failed to meet the transverse loading requirements. A theoretical analysis indicates that they all would have passed the transverse load requirements had they been tested in a realistic restrained configuration.
