La errata deja el término como "friable powdery deposit". El termino "friable" (que existe en español-ver Diccionario de la RAE) no es muy conocido en el habla normal. Viene de "friabilis", que significa "desmenuzable", del latín "minuere" o lo que es lo mismo disminuir, menguar. (ver Oxford Dictionary).

Por ello, creo que lo más correcto, sencillo y entendible por el gran público sería acudir a la etimología de "minuere" (del que deriva "menudo") y traducir "friable powdery deposit" como "capa de polvo desmenuzable" o "capa de polvo menudo".

Que ya se entiende más.

Entiendo que "pulverulento" sería una traducción más apropiada para "powdery". "Polvoriento" podría confundirse con "cubierto de polvo", en vez de indicar pulverizable o pulverizado.

You must have a typo there. The English term surely is FRIABLE

I would use the term POLVOROSO to translate POWDERY. In this case I believe it's more precise than POLVORIENTO.
