Me gusta salir de compras.

Me gusta ir de compras.

I do not use "hacer compras" because you can buy stuff on the phone or over the internet and GO SHOPPING means not only shop but go PERSONALLY to the store where you are going to shop.

Explanation:
Para aportar un poco de confusión al asunto ahí va esto:

En España, además de "ir de compras", hay un pequeño matiz diferencial con "ir de tiendas", cuando "vas de compras" es que seguramente vas con la idea de comprar algo, si "vas de tiendas", vas a ver lo que hay por ellas y si hay algo que te gusta te lo compras, pero no vas necesariamente con la idea fija de comprar nada.
