English term or phrase: peak heights, peak areas, strip chart recorder
Hi everybody ... I'm translating an info sheet on how to perform a gas chromatographic assay for disinfectant formulations. The sentence is "Peak heights can be recorded on a strip chart recorder." I am translating "peak heights" as "alturas puntas," "peak areas as "áreas puntas," and "strip chart recorder as "registro de diagramas de probeta." Can't find any matches in Eurodicautom, which is usually a great place to look for chemistry terms. Are these translations correct? Thanks so much in advance. Cheers, Mary

Explanation:
strip chart recorder would more appropriately be registrador gráfico en banda de papel or registrador de banda.

Good luck!

Thanks to both of you for your input, you both gave sensible answers, but since I *have* to choose one, I'll go with Alex because he responded the most rapidly. Thanks again to both of you.

Hi Mary...

Explanation:
One of our clients is the largest petrochemical company in Mexico and I have seen several of this documents, they usually use "pico" instead of "punta", so you would say "alturas pico" (if 3-D) or "puntos pico" (if it is on a plane), "áreas pico" and and strip chart recorder is "registro de diagramas longitudinales".

I can't provide a reference, just my experience.

Hope it helps!

alturas máximas, áreas máximas, registrador gráfico de banda

Explanation:
peak is sometimes used as "pico", but when you speak about measures, it´s the maximum point, like maximum height or area.
Hope it helps.
