Lo que no me queda claro es si dual es porque son dos o por su doble función (o ambos motivos).

El caso es que supongo que son unos pasadores que sirven para llevar o sujetar los pilets (ice axe) o los bastones de trekking (trekking poles)

agree  Jesús Cordero-Salvado: Opino que dual probablemente significa dos (dice loops, no loop) y *doble función* [piolet y bastón]. Yo no tendría ningún problema en usar trekking, es muy usado en español, pero los muy puristas quizá solo admitan senderismo.
