French term or phrase: minispace
type of car or category of car- shaped like a monospace except only has 2 seats I think and is slower (?) - I found "roundabout" but that seems to be it...

micro-MPV
Explanation:
This is the nearest equivalent IMHO.
Examples are the Opel/Vauxhall Meriva and renault Modus.
You may also find these cars referred to as a mini-MPV, but this term extends to the Renault Scenic and the VW Touran which are called "monospaces compact" in French.

IMHO (again), \"Minispace\" doesn\'t mean any more in English than \"Monospace\" does.
MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) is the industry term for what is commonly known as a \"people carrier\". However, as the vehicles adopting this concept get smaller and smaller, \"people carrier\" is a bit of a misnomer.

Thanks for your help, BUT my client (Peugeot) has informed me they use "minispace" in both English and French...so I have to go with that (especially since I found it several EU documents).

agree  David Sirett: Good googles for "micro-MPV". Not 2-seaters, as asker thought, though!

  -> Thanks David. No, they're not 2-seaters.

agree  Didier Fourcot: As the category is new, not google hits yet as expected, but anybody knows what a MPV is just like any French knows what a monospace is, so the concept is properly rendered

  -> Thanks Didier.
