Emmanuelle, I do not understand your point with "to": I don't see any "to". Now, if you agree with "position" but not with "indexing" (addressing ???), just mention it in your agreement/neutral. If one proposes a translation each time he/she changes a word, we'll end up with thousand propositions each time. In general, one makes an entry to suggest something different and "on" versus" "over" is not significant to my modest opinion. Hope I made the point clear. Not offended, don't worry :)

Sorry no offence meant here :o). Just wanted to make two points: a) the use of "to" not "on" the probe and b) my reluctance to use the term addressing here. I toyed with the idea of entering it as a comment below your suggestion but then thought it would be clearer as a separate entry...Hope I'm making sense here?

My be I missed something, but where's the difference with what I said already yesterday ? Check Affymetrix or BioMed Central sites; "Probes position" is a standard terminology. Indexing an alternative is you code the position with letter/number (like A1, B2.....) which is the case with some types of microchips.

Ok, I would say something along the lines of Figure 2 in the annex shows the position of the probes (or probes' position) on the chip. The term adressage is translated as their position. Does this make sense?

I like "probes 'position on the chip" but if I were to translate "adressage" (I found addressing) how would I use it in my sentence?
