"Office" Explanation: A simple look in my Harrap French-English dictionary shows that, among the possible translations, you also find the word "office". In my opinion, this would be a perfect word for you to use in this context, since it may mean a whole department as well as one person. For instance "Central Marketing Office", "Business Office- Travel", "Business Office- In House", etc. Incidentally, the word "fonctionnaire" ("civil servant" or "official") comes from "fonction" and gives you an idea of the meaning of "fonction". A "fonctionnaire" works at a "fonction". You could also use the words "duty" or "function", which would be good translations for "fonction" alone, but in view of the context, I think that "office" would be better. |
