French term or phrase: modeles business en rupture
In the announcement for a business make-over scheme,
under heading of 'innovation', a proposal to "Creer des
modeles business en rupture". My initial thought was
something like 'breakaway business modeles', but I'd
like others' opinions. Thank you for any suggestions.

Explanation:
Frankly, I think your version is brilliant! If you are uncomfortable with that term, how about something like *spin-off* business model?

Just to give you some reinforcement, here is what the Oxford SuperLex has to offer for *en* rupture:

4 (opposition) être en rupture avec to be at odds with
[hiérarchie, groupe]; il est en rupture avec cette idéologie/tradition he's broken away from this ideology/tradition;

And here are a couple of Google search results that show the use of the expression in appropriate collocations (i.e., "break-away business systems"; "breakaway business strategy"; etc.):

http://www.google.com/search?q="breakaway business"&hl=en&lr... [199 hits]

http://www.google.com/search?q="break-away business"&hl=en&l... [32 hits]

http://www.google.com/search?q="spin-off business"&hl=en&lr=... [721 hits]

And a note concerning the meaning of *rupture*:

while it can have the meaning of "collapse" (= failure), this collapse comes about as the result of an initial break. The *principal* meaning of *rupture*, however, is the act of breaking. In the context you are dealing with, of course, it would make no sense to *create* a failed business model!

Here is the whole Oxford SuperLex entry:

1 (de relations) breaking-off; ils souhaitent la rupture des
relations commerciales/négociations they want to
break off trade relations/the negotiations; la rupture
d'un accord the breaking-off of an agreement;
2 (résultat) breakdown (avec in); la rupture du dialogue
avec l'OLP a entrainé… the breakdown in the talks
with the PLO led to…;
3 (de couple, coalition, d'amis) break-up; si tu fais ça c'est la
rupture! if you do that we're through[!]ou splitting up ; lettre de rupture letter ending a relationship;
4 (opposition) être en rupture avec to be at odds with
[hiérarchie, groupe]; il est en rupture avec cette idéologie/tradition he's broken away from this ideology/tradition;
5 (cassure) généralement break; (de barrage, digue) breaking; (de conduite) fracture; (de muscle, d'artère) rupture; (d'organe mécanique ou électrique) failure; point de rupture breaking point; accident dû à la rupture d'un essieu accident caused by a broken axle ou by an axle breaking; amener une situation au point de rupture to bring a situation to breaking point; il y a rupture entre le passé et le présent figuré there's a break between the past and the present.
