French term
vous pouvez déduire les frais de la TVA payés sur vos propres ventes

Business/Commerce (general)
Web-site for association offering business support.
Looking for some help understanding this sentence. I get what this service is basically offering - easy recovery for companies of VAT paid on purchases of goods and services while abroad. However, what I don't get is the 'payés sur vos propres ventes' bit - surely it would be 'achats', not 'ventes'? This doesn't seem to fit with my understanding of how VAT works - maybe someone can enlighten me.
Here's the whole thing in context:
"Remboursement TVA

This is how I read it.
When you're visiting Geneva, Charlotte, normally you will "lose" the VAT paid on all your expenses which you would normally claim back if in the UK.
By registering with these bods, they'll claim on you behalf and pay 10% back to you ;-)

: VAT discussed in the question phrase only concerns VAT in the home country. Then they explain that you can'd deduct Swiss VAT at home, but that they will recover it for you in Switzerland//An EU business can recover VAT in another EU country the same way.

Thanks Finn. In my earlier comment I meant that an EU business would not charge VAT to a business in another EU country but, as we're talking about travel expenses and the like here, you're right of course.

Hi Charlotte. What they are explaining is that, when one sells goods (out of the UK - or "your own country"), one can deduct the VAT because it is being exported. However, they explain, that in Switzerland one can only do this if one is actually registered for VAT (TVA) purposes. So, yes, it is on "sales".

: In the case of exported goods, it is the buyer abroad who collects VAT when he sells them on. The exporter simply does not collect VAT on exports, so there is nothing to deduct. Anyway, this question does not concern export.

You can set off the cost of VAT against your own sales
VAT paid by Swiss companies on expenses incurred in countries where there is VAT can set off the amount concerned in the same way as they owuld any other expense.
