French term or phrase: Vague/mi-vague
I am translating a set of evaluation criteria for the recruitment and promotion of researchers at a French institution. There is repeated reference to "vague" and "mi-vague" evaluations. I understand this to refer to a recruitment or educational cycle (as in, normal recruitment is carried during "l’évaluation à vague", smaller evaluations are done "mi-vague"). Is there an English term for this other than "wave"? I am using "round" at the moment but it seems slightly wrong.

Est-ce que FULL TERM SESSION / MID-TERM SESSION fonctionneraient ?

Might this not be soemthing to do with France's agency which used to be called the AERES and is now called the HCERES? Their evaluation campaigns are divided up into "waves".

When I was doing an internship with an INSERM lab, folk were fairly twitchy as there was a (as then was) AERES assessment underway. http://www.hceres.fr/MODALITES-D-EVALUATIONS/Campagne-d-eval...
