Bergmann conduit Explanation: It is indeed very old; nineteenth-century, in fact. I think it should be called Bergmann conduit, but with a double n, in honour of the inventor, Sigmund Bergmann. He was quite a man: one of the great pioneers of electricity. Here's his American patent for his conduit (or one of them), granted in 1898: https://www.google.com/patents/US603230 There's a photo of some "tube Bergman" here: http://anciensoutils.blogspot.com.es/2012/12/outils-anciens-... But there is also a sprinkling of references to Bergmann conduit in English, and even the odd picture: "There is Bergmann conduit made out of thin brass with a paper insulation and a tool to bend it." http://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?alb... "My oldest conduit is made out of wood, followed by Bergmann conduit (brass with paper isolation inside)" http://www.lighting-gallery.net/gallery/displayimage.php?alb... "Bending tool for Bergmann conduit. The top jaw makes the indents, the round bottom part shapes the bend." https://www.electrical-photos.com/showphoto.php/photo/583 "It even works with wires inside Bergmann conduit (Orangeburg pipe with a thin outer coating of sheet metal, not earthed) in plastered brick walls." https://www.electrical-contractor.net/forums/ubbthreads.php/... |
