French term or phrase: CNAR
Hi,
I'm translating a speech by Sarkozy to the préfets dated 9/9/2005. He speaks of this organisation which I can not find details of on the net. Does anyone know what it is and what it does?
Le CNAR d'ailleurs ne sera plus seulement un organisme d'appui aux préfets. Il va devenir un centre d'impulsion, d'animation,

Many thanks Karen. I was confused by the fact that Sarkozy also referred to it as Centre national d'animation et des ressources: a mistake perhaps?

"Or, j’attends de tous une entière mobilisation. Et j’invite les préfets dont les résultats sont inférieurs à la moyenne à se rapprocher du Centre national de l’animation et des ressources (CNAR) pour bénéficier d’un appui opérationnel. Le CNAR d’ailleurs ne sera plus seulement un organisme d’appui aux préfets. Il va devenir un centre d’impulsion, d’animation. Il sera mon relais pour orienter vos objectifs."

agree  B D Finch: "Centre" for UK (where the Asker is). I'd leave the French acronym followed by your suggested translation in square brackets and in lower case, unless the organisation concerned accepts this as an official translation of their name.

However, it is a widespread and rather generic title: see for example http://www.franceolympique.com/art/41-centre_national_dappui...

More CNAR's seem to have "appui" than "animation" in their full title, but the general idea is pretty much the same (possibly a slightly more active connotation to "animation"?).

I don't know just which setup M. le Président is referring to here, I suppose it's even possible that he has spontaneousy slipped in "animation" in place of "appui".
