Would this be "unplanned leave"?

leave (days) granted without prior motive/motivation

These floating holidays (congés mobiles) may act/serve as leave days, i.e; their function and purpose. They may be given without prior motive or motivation (i.e; personal reasons, rationale and consideration).

"A floating holiday allows an employee to take any day off, for any reason, when he or she needs the day".

The employee does not have to state the specific reasons for taking his/her days off.

Without providing any explanation to the employer.

neutral  Francois Boye: This is common practice in the US. BUT you must provide an explanation because there is a distinction between holiday leave and sickness leave.

neutral  B D Finch: Your suggested term "motive/motivation" is a faux ami. However, your explanation is right.
