Law/Patents - Law: Contract(s) / Divorce settlement
French term or phrase: partage
I'm wondering if there is one possible translation of this term that can be used throughout a divorce settlement? It is used in different contexts throughout the text. At times, DIVISION seems appropriate. Other times, it seems that DISTRIBUTION or even DISSOLUTION is more appropriate. Is it an Act of Division or Dissolution? The Date of DIVISION or DISSOLUTION or DISTRIBUTION? Any thoughts? Here are some of the examples. Not finding any help in the KUDOZ glossary.

and

or even

Acte de partage, question asked yesterday your time (état liquidatif):

https://www.proz.com/kudoz/french-to-english/finance-general...

Source quoted in the right answer:

"The purpose of a *divorce ***settlement agreement*** is to memorialize any agreements reached between divorcing (or separating) spouses as to child custody, child support, alimony (also referred to as “spousal support” or “maintenance”), and the ***division of property***. For purposes of this article, we’ll refer to it as a “Divorce Agreement” or just plain “agreement.”

https://www.divorcenet.com/states/nationwide/what_is_a_settl...

So the settlement agreement acts as an "acte de partage", as well as doing other things.

Division of property in the US:

***Division of Property in Divorce* | ***Attorneys.com*** ***https://www.attorneys.com*** › divorce › division-of-prop...
In divorce, property division can be almost as angst-provoking as deciding who gets ... to the ***American*** Bar Association*, a professional organization for attorneys.

As we know from TV and movies (and even from general knowledge) a lawyer is called an attorney in the US.

division of (accumulated) assets

Explanation:
This, I think, is what they are specifically talking about. Assets accumulated as a result of and during the marriage.

US Am. div. > apportionment

Explanation:
Repeating *my* answer of division as in the first weblink or partitiion - namely of land - from Bridge 'over Troubled Waters' may not be in sync with the US localized context.

Also, in E+W again, this may be a non-employment severance of the joint ownership.

Acte de partage: US Am. Instrument BrE and IrE Deed of apportionment Probate: Assent Form

Example sentence(s):
  • AmE: In equitable apportionment cases the Court has the power, and duty, to make a fair and equitable division of all marital property accumulated during the marriage.

I find it's generally helpful to refer back to the letter of the law cited. Others articles of that same section may be helpful.
