From a French tax assessment. It appear among other personal data(date of birth, number of children...) there is also an entry for "Residence alternée" which I have translated as "Alternate address (or domicile)". "Exclusive" in this context beats me. Any ideas? Thank you all.

neutral  B D Finch: Primary would imply a secondary residence, which would mean the primary one wasn't "exclusive". What would "permanent" mean? i.e. the resident had not yet decided to move, undertook never to move, couldn't imagine moving ...

This does not refer to a permanent residence when it appears in the French Avis d'impôt; it refers to the custody of children.

It appears in the same section where the Declarant provides information on their civil status (situation de foyer, cas particulier, enfants majeurs célibatires, enfants mariés, etc.), as a heading (alongside Résidence Alternée), underneath which reads: enfants mineurs ou handicapés and dont enfants handicapés, the answers to which add up to the Nombre de parts i.e. number of units used for calculating tax and deductions:

Résidence exclusive is another way of saying [enfants à] charge exclusif (the opposite being Résidence alternée (à charge partagée)).
