agree  John Speese: That's what I would call it, but not sure whether the "primary" is necessary.

  -> Thanks! I guess it depends whether the next unit down the line is a "unité d'emballage"!
agree  Tony M: 'conditionnement' is fine as 'packaging' alone, as 'emballage' could be 'packing'; though it might actually be better the other way round, cf. 'meat packers', 'pack size', etc. for example.
