French term

cd1, cd2, cd3 etc

French to English Medical Medical: Cardiology Angioplasty
I am familiar with the abbreviations used for arteries such as cx for circumflex branch, mg for left internal mammary artery etc, but was surprised to come across the following in an angioplasty procedure report: "Sténose significative CX1, sténose significative CD1, CD2, CD3".

How do we translate these into English? Do we say "Significant stenosis of circumflex 1. Significant stenosis of right coronary artery 1, right coronary artery 2 and right coronary artery 3."? It is not something I have come across before, so your assistance is appreciated!

Elizabeth Ballance (asker) Oct 23, 2008:
Correction: I meant to say "marginal" for the abbreviation "mg", though my medical dictionary does say "left internal mammary artery"!

Yes, mg can be mammaire (interne) gauche (LIMA - used in CABGs) or marginale gauche

For CX1 I would say "proximal circumflex segment" or "proximal segment of the Cx".

Note that you can also use proximal, mid and distal segments for the RCA.

OK I see what Manu49 means - segments 1, 2 and 3 according to the AHA correspond to the RCA, as my link above indicates. It is a pity he just throws in a translation without giving any explanation.

However, I have a doubt as to whether this classification is used in the UK, and it may be safer to stick with proximal, mid and distal, as in this UK document, see page 22.

So my last word is:
"Sténose significative CX1, sténose significative CD1, CD2, CD3"

Significant stenosis of the proximal Cx, significant stenosis of the proximal, mid and distal RCA.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Many thanks to SJLD, Dr Manu and Liz for your assistance. I finally went for "significant stenosis of the right coronary artery (proximal, middle and distal segments)" which best conveys the sense in English, I feel. Many thanks for your research on my behalf."

Hi,

I don't have time to give the "correct answer" at the moment :-)
I am busy translating myself re an urgent job.

Thanks Liz - this does seem like the most likely answer, but I'll wait to see if anyone else has any firm ideas about the translation into English.
