Medical - Medical: Cardiology / insertion of a bioprosthesis
French term or phrase: par abord trans-artériel rétrograde fémoral droit
Hi there,

Hoping someone can help with this :)

It is from a doctor's letter to a colleague about a patient who underwent catheterisation for severe aortic stenosis, with implantation of a 23 mm bioprosthesis. It says:

'...par méthode de cathétérisme au moyen d'une bioprothèse EDWARDS XT de 23 mm, implantée par abord trans-artériel rétrograde fémoral droit'.

I think I understand all the different bits of the end of this section but cannot see how to fit it together in English.

So the approach is trans-arterial via the right femoral artery - what about the retrograde bit?

Thanks! :)

by retrograde transarterial approach using the right femoral artery
Explanation:
Retrograde meaning coming from the opposite direction of normal blood flow. In this case from below into the right femoral artery UP to the heart.
See reference for straightforward use of "retrograde" as the same adjective in Englsih.

agree  rkillings: Or use adverb, 'retrogradely', as here: http://eurheartj.oxfordjournals.org/content/13/5/704. And wouldn't 'from' the right femoral artery be simpler than 'using'?
