Mihaela Pirvulet (asker) Nov 28, 2006:
Hi Sue
Yes, you are right. That's what I wanted to avoid. Thanks again.
Dr Sue Levy (X) Nov 28, 2006:
This is a good example of a situation where you must translate only exactly what is there and not make any assumptions or diagnoses ;-)
Mihaela Pirvulet (asker) Nov 28, 2006:
Thank you, Sue.
Dr Sue Levy (X) Nov 28, 2006:
Ok. Then I think this just means that electrical activity returned after 15 mins of asystole (not surprising he died) but not necessarily sinus rhythm. See "pulseless electrical activity" (PEA). I presume your text will give you the necessary details.
Mihaela Pirvulet (asker) Nov 28, 2006:
Hi Sue
Yes, the patient was asystolic and he eventually died.
Dr Sue Levy (X) Nov 28, 2006:
Mihaela, it is important to know what happened before and after. Was the patient in asystole (tracé plat)? If so, we cannot assume that when cardiac activity was once again detectable on the ECG, it was either normal or effective.

Hello Sue, I guess then if you go from asystole to VF we have a problem with normal.
OK lets leave normal out.
Thankyou Sue

thanks Itridico
agree Alice Saunders (X) : rhythm!
2 hrs
thanks Alice, yes sorry rhythm
neutral Dr Sue Levy (X) : we don't know that it was normal - just ECG activity restored//no because you can have ineffective cardiac activity eg VF

Would it be fair to say normal in the sense it maintains normal perfusion ?

thanks monbuckland
