liver span Explanation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liver_span The liver span is a measurement performed during physical examination to determine the size of the liver and identify possible hepatomegaly. It is the distance between the lower border of the liver in the mid-clavicular line obtained by palpation, and the upper border of the liver in the mid-clavicular line detected by percussion (the upper border of the liver lies behind the ribs and can not be palpated). More accurate methods of estimating liver span include ultrasound and cross-sectional imaging (computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging).[1] Normal liver span is 6–12 cm, but varies with age, height, and weight.[2][3][4] Furthermore, depending on the physician's technique, estimates of the same liver span can vary by 8 cm, on average.[5] -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 32 mins (2019-05-08 12:32:54 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- This is a way of measuring the right-sided vertical span of the liver to determine whether or not the liver is enlarged. Normally this is done in the mid-clavicular line, here they seem to have used the kidney 'axis'. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 34 mins (2019-05-08 12:34:40 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- See diagram on this presentation - https://docplayer.fr/22902016-Digestif-hepatomegalie-hepatom... -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 40 mins (2019-05-08 12:41:14 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- https://www.sante-tn.com/3m/materiels/la-fleche-hepatique/ La flèche hépatique permet de mesurer la hauteur du foie, plus précisément c’est la somme de la longueur du débord hépatique sous-costal et de la matité sous-costale. |
