French to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical: Instruments / catheter accessories
French term or phrase: préfendu
"bouchon préfendu en latex"
part of a connector. The whole point of this device is to allow repeated access for injection, sampling, infusion or whatever without the use of needles or risk of blood contamination. All I can come up with is perforated or slitted, but they don't seem right because (I think) the stopper is moved out of the way to allow liquid to pass, and then moved back into place (by a spring) to seal the connector again. So if it was perforated, it wouldn't work, would it ....?
Anyone actually seen one of these things?

split tip catheter

I'm no expert, but this may be the term you're looking for. Gets plenty of google hits of which one below:

the split-tip catheter is capable of higher flow rates (Qb and QbEff) compared with the conventional catheter, which may allow more efficient dialysis

split longitudinally

the document has a typo: it is "refendu" and not "prefendu". Refers to "latex plug split longitudinally" or along its length.

Note added at 4 hrs 49 mins (2005-10-27 17:25:52 GMT)

latex stopper split longitudinally or lengthwise. it compresses the split when inserted for a good seal.

Asker: I don't think it can be a typo because it occurs several times.
