"Les professions ignobles comprenaient tous les metiers mecaniques, meme a l'echelon de direction: l'exploitation a ferme d'une terre (sauf celles du roi et des princes de sang)...Le commerce par mer et l'industrie naissante de maitre de forges echapperent a la derogeance."

Does the first mean farming leased land? I found "ironmaster" for the second, but that sounds more like an occupation than an industry - would the industry be called "ironworks"?
