English translation: worn away over time / wear and tear from foot traffic

French to English translations [PRO]
French term or phrase:usure de passage
I have provisionally translated the above as "wear and tear of passage". However, I am unhappy with the word "passage" which refers to what the feet of visitors damage at an ancient site, i.e pavements, streets, the floors of buildings with large surface areas and walls when feet clamber over them.
I like your suggestion of wear and tear of foot traffic. Many thanks.
