neutral  B D Finch: I agree with "adverse possession", but think "empiétement" should be translated as "encroachment", not trespass. Neighbours surreptitiously shifting the fences is the most likely risk.

  -> Point taken. Encroachments, like overhanging trees and shifting fences, are technically trespasses on land, whereas spillage of manure or genetically modified sprays into a neigbouring field would be encroachments (the UK tort of 'Rylands vs. Fletcher')
