Building on all these good suggestions.

This assumes that the gounds are, indeed, open to the public of course.

I like Sara's "castle/manor[house]" for the French "Château," since "castle" has a distinctively and almost exclusively medieval/military flavor to it in English which it does not have at all in French.

Alternatively, leave the "Château" in the English --it's a well-known enough word, I should think.

Ultimately, it depends upon the nature of the building itself : if it really *is* a "castle" --in the English sense-- then that's the word to use; but if it is a "Château" (on the Loire, for example), then keep that word and definitely do NOT use "castle."

That little house in Versailles is never referred to as a "castle," after all.

Chateau visits: Grounds Only


Explanation:
I agree with what was said re Castle/chateau. I don';t agree that grounds only means you can't see the castle from the outside. It seems to me that if you can visit the grounds, you can necessarily see the castle from the outside because the castle is within the grounds. The French just puts it another way. The French says you can visit the outside walls whereas English would say the grounds. The visitors would be seeing the same thing.

As a matter of fact, Grounds Only would include the outside walls of the castle or chateau since they are strictly speaking \"on the grounds\".
