French term or phrase: édition de multiples
Hi everyone

I have a doubt about how to translate "multiples". At first I thought "reproductions" but would that extend to CDs, DVDs and other multimedia (see definition below)?

Many thanks for your help.

"100 Mona Lisa valent mieux qu'une", aussi célèbre formule d'Andy Warhol, est liée aux formes les plus actuelles du multiple. Le spectateur peut, à partir d'une définition générale du multiple : une oeuvre au tirage le plus souvent limité, numérotée et signée, constater à quel point celui-ci s'est enrichi, depuis les traditionnelles estampes et gravures, de formes et de supports aussi divers que l'objet, la sérigraphie, le sticker, le CD, le DVD, etc

Notes to answerer
Asker: Hi Alain - I'm not sure these are always signed or limited editions. I think they could be just posters for example. What do you think?

agree  David Vaughn: "limited editions" - "multiples" are not necessarily literally "signed" - and the text goes on to explain.

-> Thanks Vaughn. Do you think 'limited editions' implies they are signed?

agree  Christopher Crockett: No, S., "limited eds." are not *always* signed (though they usually are), but are most often numbered --engravings, for example as "3/100" meaning "copy 3 of 100" pulled from the plate. Of course, in a sense, *all* editions are "limited."

just another term for reproductions of the original, whether it is a painting or a CD/DVD etc.
