French term or phrase: projets de costumes / maquettes de costumes
I'm confused about the difference between the two. Is "projet" the sketch, while "maquette" is the actual costume (the "model")? These appear in a list of opera museum library collections. One phrase says, "maquettes de decors par (list of designers)", which is why I'm wondering if "maquettes" here refers to sketches or designs, too.
Thanks! Karen

design & sample (modell)
Explanation:
projet would be the design (drawing) and maquette is a sample of the costume, sometimes made on a smaller scale

Thanks very much! "Sample" does sound better than "model" and I found the term used on several Web sites. Karen
