French term or phrase: St. Thomas Aquinas quote
"L'art est promesse de bonheur et la beaute splendeur du vrai." Does anyone know if there is a standard translation for this phrase? Thanks, Karen
Karen Tucker
English translation:Art is promise of happiness and beauty the splendour of truth
Explanation:
This was easy, I thought. I have read Aquinas years ago and have also enjoyed reading the version dished by the James Joyce character Stephen Dedalus.

Explanation:
There are various good English translations from Aquinas. One would
have to know exactly from where it is,
then I could help you looking it up in
one of my English Aquinas' books.

Explanation:
Thank you for your offer, but there's no indication in the text where this quote comes from. I did a Web search and couldn't find the quote. In any case, it might just be a paraphrase since there are no quotes around it, so I'll just do my best in interpreting it. Karen
