Notes to answerer
Asker: I don't think so; the next line (it's a strange on-line list) is diagnostics: <<surrégime moteur prolongé ou augmentation de la pression de suralimentation (en levé de pied)>> and one of the "customer symptons" is "smoke from the exhaust"

Asker: Whoops! The bit missing from the above is: "surrégime moteur prolongé ou augmentation de la pression de suralimentation (en levé de pied)"

neutral  polyglot45: based on what? Surely this is when you burn oil as you first start to pull away?

-> Yes, could be the old blue smoke too.

agree  Anthony Lines: Definitely detection of "wheelspin" due to either too many revs or a slippery road surface. Well done, Kashew! Think of trying to pull away "on" oil; your tyres will not grip.

-> Thanks, Anthony, but there now seems to be some engine "racing" now!

start on oil

If the context is right, this appears to be associated with diesel engines that do not "start well on oil". I know nothing about them, but if you put "start on oil" and "automobile" into google you will get a raft of similar references to Mercedes, Citroen, Peugeot vehicles that run on both gasoline and oil but have difficuly with a cold start on oil. Also with Citroen/Peugeot a car club shows Depart sur huile as a standard indicator in its instrument warning messages.

"Sélection du gas-oil pour le démarrage" is the recommended starting fuel on these sites. Then other fuels can be introduced once they are warmed up. These fuels seem to vary from used crank-case oil to exotic bio fuels. If you are dealing with a hybride car, I would definitely look at this interpretation.
