French term or phrase: plots de la sérigraphie
Relating to gauge accuracy:
"Répétitivité variation en résistance pour une hauteur donnée dépend entre autre de la longueur du bras et de la distance en Ohm entre deux plots de la sérigraphie".

English translation:gauge markings
Explanation:
I don't know how these gauges work, but it would seem it relies on electrical resistance, presumably that of some wire or something whose length (?) changes in accordance with the changing position of the float arm. If so, it stands to reason that the distance between gauge marks (Full, Empty, half-full, quarter-full, reserve, for instance) will correspond to a certain difference in electrical resistance.

IOW, ' distance en Ohm entre deux plots de la sérigraphie" does not mean ohms are used in any way to MEASURE the distance between two markings, just that there is a correspondence.

All this goes some way to explaining why fuel gauge markings are so often not at all regular, i.e. the "top" quarter will be much larger or smaller than the "bottom" quarter. I have always thought that irrespective of the shape of the tank, it should be possible to "regularize" the markings, but maybe this electrical business just makes it too damn complicated.

Received further info on this: "sérigraphie" is used synonymously with "couche épaisse" = thick-film circuit. The "plots" are contact points. Thanks for your help anyway.
