Merci ghoston! Every response was good and thorough, but this abbreviation is actually just what I needed. Seems kind of strange that a lease agreement should have AD&D, but I'll take it at face value.

death, (disability) and temporary total disablement insurance

Explanation:
This is not easy as the tem appears to mean different things to different companies.

One word on « life insurance ». It is generally « Assurance vie ». The Canadian Actuaries’ lexicon suggests « death insurance ». My Risk Insurance Reinsurance Lexicon confirms this. I think that it is important here to avoid using the term « life insurance » as that implies two things : an amount of money will be paid out when the policyholder reaches a certain age or to his nearest and dearest when he dies (International Dic of Insurance & Finance).

As I understand it, there is no chance of pay-out on a DIT policy when the holder reaches a certain age. From my research, it is the sort of policy which is linked to a specific loan, particularly with a mortage, which is the biggest investment most of us ever make. Never the less, it does appear to be offered with certain cards, its meaning even extending to include loss of employment (without their being any requirement as to having been disabled), (see (7) below). In fact for the CIC (a group to which the CIO belongs), describes DIT differently again, see (8) below.

So, according to :

SOGENAL for the Société Générale, DIT = décès, d'invalidité ou d'incapacité temporaire totale de travail,

CIO, DIT = décès invalidité temporaire

Whilst the first example covers three distinct areas, namely death, disability and temporary total disablement (see (4) below), the second one does not include permanent disability. I have provided other examples which suggest that the term is perhaps a catch-all shorthand for insurance which goes with loan agreements but that although it is commonly agreed that the term covers death, the nature and extent of disability (permanent or temporary) is not agreed upon. Perhaps you should check with your client what it actually covers so that you can translate it properly.
