French to English translations [PRO] Law/Patents - Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs / birth certificate
French term or phrase:qui déclare la reconnaître
On a birth certificate
(Mother's name and details) "qui déclare la reconnaître" (referring to the female new born child)
I am doing a birth certificate for France, and it has this exact same phrase, but without any asterisks (i.e. no text has been ommitted): "Declarant: La mere, qui declare la reconnaitre". No mention of the father is made on the certificate, so we presume he is not in the picture. Therefore, odd as it may seem, the mother is being asked to acknowledge the child as her own. Although if the certificate is drawn up NOT actually at the time of birth, then this makes sense because otherwise there are no witnesses to say that the child does indeed belong to the mother.
Just for clarification; my birth certificate was lost, because after I left Cuba the parish or whatever burned down. When I was first married, in Puerto Rico, my mother had to prepare a 'birth certificate document' and one of the (to me very funny)
I think that's the whole point: the 'qui décalre...' bit applies to the second-named person, i.e. father; clearly if his name is not listed, he isn't going to be recognizing anything! Is the nam written in, but the 'qui déclare' part of the printed form?
There is no mistake, just the name and details of the mother at the beginning of the certificate, then asterixes (maybe that is where the name of the father would be entered in other cases) and then "qui déclare la reconnaître."see below
So it may be the case that that sentence actually would usually apply to the named father, but it could also be that the mother has to acknowledge and accept her as her daughter?
(Mother's name and details) ***********************"qui déclare la reconnaître"
