French term or phrase: évolutions ascendantes
Hi. Can anyone help? This comes from a sales contract about an inbuilt toll and tax computer system. The term which has me stumped is as follows:

Le Fournisseur garantit la transparence des Progiciels par rapport aux évolutions ascendantes de l’Environnement d’Exploitation.

I know that 'ascendant' normally refers to backwards compatibility and so my attempt is:

The Supplier will guarantee the transparency of the Software Packages in relation to any backwards compatible evolution of the Operating Environment.

However, it reads like the dreaded 'translatorese'. Is there something I am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am working through the night to deliver this for 1000GMT. The joys of freelancing...

backward-compatible evolution
Explanation:
Or sometimes "backwards compatible evolution."

Here are some references:

Backward-compatible evolution of XML schemas for business documents also provides additional resiliency as services evolve independently.

S/370 also refers to a computer system architecture specification, and is a direct and mostly backward compatible evolution of the System/360 architecture from which it retains most aspects.

GSM, the Global System for Mobile communications, owes its worldwide success to the continued progressive and backward-compatible evolution of its open industry standard and to visionary yet simple ideas such as global roaming – enabling, thanks to a harmonized spectrum, the use of a device with the same number outside its home network, multivendor environment – enabling different vendors to implement with sufficient freedom compatible products based on the same standard, SMS – enabling people to text each other, etc.

The definition of the next generation of wireless networks is well under way within the IEEE 802.11 High Network Task Group committee. The resulting standard, to be called IEEE 802. lln, is expected to be a backward-compatible evolution of the successful IEEE 802.11a/g systems also based on multicarrier techniques.

So maybe, "The Supplier will guarantee the transparency of Software Packages regarding the backward-compatible evolution of the Operating Environment." ;-)
