French term or phrase: une chaine d'information
I have a technical document which talks about the components of "une chaine d'information"--"acquerir, traiter, restituer, et communiquer l'information." "Information entrantes" go into the "chaine d'information" and "informations sortantes" exit it. The "chaine d'information" is linked with a "chaine d'energie" (of which I also don't know the exact translation): The arrow pointing from "chaine d'information" to "chaine d'energie" explains "informations permettant de commander la chaine d'energie" and the opposite arrow explains "Informations permettant de controler le bon deroulement de la transformation de la matiere d'oeuvre."

Explanation:
Or perhaps information string or perhaps something else. :-|
It's hard, at least for me, to figure out the context without seeing the original French passage. ;-)
