Les barrières Nadar sont ces barrières qui organisent la circulation, avertissent des travaux, orientent les manifestations… Le terme "barrière Nadar" est un belgicisme, traduit en France par "barrière empêchant le foule de passer". Il y aurait une explication à prendre avec prudence : "Nadar" viendrait effectivement du nom du photographe français, Gaspard-Felix Tournachon, dit Nadar. Celui-ci fut le pionnier de la prise de vue aérienne, grâce à son ballon appelé "Le Géant". En 1864, il passa par Bruxelles. Lors de son envol, des barrières furent utilisées pour contenir la foule des spectateurs : elles prirent à cette occasion le nom de "barrières Nadar".
