GLOSSARY ENTRY (DERIVED FROM QUESTION BELOW)
French term or phrase:
Grands Debutants 1 Pour Etudiants Selectionnes (Tests)
Well, I finally got clarification from the client, who said it was an Italian course for beginnners. Now how in the world would one ever know that from "Grands Debutants 1 Pour Etudiants Selectionnes (Tests)" ?????? Obviously I can't translate is as Beginning Italian since there is absolutely no mention of "Italien" in the course title (or anywhere else for that matter), so I guess I'll have to go with something like "Beginning Course for Selected Students". Go figure!
I think you're complicating things. There is often a pre-selection test for courses where all students are new to the subject. It is their capacity to succeed that is tested, not their prior knowledge of the subject.
Absolute beginners, yes. But it doesn't make sense to say "Absolute beginners 1 for select students (tests). I'm still not clear on what type of course this is. It refers to tests, but it's listed as a course with the number of hours, grade, course number, etc. Something like "beginning course for select students" doesn't make much more sense - too vague.
