French term or phrase: Numero National
I have a school attendance certificate for a particular pupil in France. There is a 'Numero National' among the personal details - 10 digits followed by a single letter. I've done a lot of searching but can't find what this means - it certainly isn't the standard 'National Identification Number' because those numbers supposedly follow a strict formula involving dates of birth etc, which don't match the number I've got at all.

I thought it might be a student/pupil registry number of sorts, but can't find an example anywhere so I'm throwing it out to the forum!

Notes to answerer
Asker: Yes, it does not seem so simple unfortunately. The student in question is a female and a French-born French national...yet the number starts with a '1'...so I am still searching for the right answer!
