I'd like more context as the way to translate "concours" may vary depending on the type of "concours"; concours d'entrée for one of the Grandes écoles? Concours to become a teacher? Your example describes a situation where the person got in/through whatever, via a system which probably had an entry with concours and one without. I'm beginning to sound foolish!
More context needed please.

graduated (passed) without final exam
Explanation: Possibly trying to say that the course result was based on work over the year or a final dissertation or sth but no final exam.
