Bachelor of Arts (BA)

Explanation:
In France, the word "Baccalauréat" (often called BAC) means the diploma you get at the end of high-shcool (secondary education), mandatory to get accepted in college or university. In the US, it would be: "High-school diploma" since there is no exact equivalence for that degree.
"Diplôme de bachelier" is the first diploma after 3 years of higher education: this is the BA (Bachelor of Arts) with accreditation to teach secondary curricula.

disagree  Nikki Scott-Despaigne: Some lycées run "prépa" classes (post-bac+2) as CPGE or BTS but not to degree level (3 years post-bac). The context is specifically secondary not higher education here. This is not a BA and could not be within the context of secondary education. Sorry.

disagree  bohy: Le texte est clair. Il s'agit d'enseignement du second degré. Cela s'arrête au lycée (classes de "prépa" non incluses). Ensuite, c'est l'enseignement supérieur.

In answer to your question, I think it is the same thing.

agree  Yolanda Broad: Yes, "baccalauréat" should not be translated, as it is a specifically French designation. Please see my Discussion comments here: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/french_to_english/education_pedago...
