In response to Tony's valid point, see my comment below. However, it just as possible that the permanent magnet fits into a cylindrical "récepteur" to provide the field necessary to activate a separate sensor such as proximity switch or rev counter.

  -> I had a speed sensor on my old bike which used a permanent magnet to give a magnetic bias to a coil. Passing teeth altered the flux density and hence the voltage...
neutral  Charles Hawtrey (X): Could you call a compass needle a "recepteur"? It's certainly a sensor... Tricky though, here, when he can't tell us the main idea behind the patent. I sympathise.
