French to English translations [Non-PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Energy / Power Generation
French term or phrase: accroît la légitimité
I am having trouble with this sentence:

Aujourd’hui, le consensus est fort quant à la nécessité de développer et de promouvoir des sources alternatives d’énergie, ce qui accroît la légitimité des énergies renouvelables.

For the second part can I say:
Increase the legitimacy or is this a bad translation?
I just don't know how to put it.
I usually translate technical documents, this is a technical presentation however, this sentence and another are a problem for me.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

English translation:increases the credibity / gives more credence to
Explanation:

... ce qui accroît la légitimité des énergies renouvelables. = ce qui fait des énergies renouvelables "une option légitime"

ici "légitime" = à prendre au sérieux, comme étant l'opposé de "farfelu / fantaisiste"

Aujourd’hui, le consensus est fort quant à la nécessité de développer et de promouvoir des sources alternatives d’énergie, ce qui accroît la légitimité des énergies renouvelables.
=
.... which will increase the credibility / give more credence to renewable sources of energy
