French to English translations [PRO] Bus/Financial - Finance (general) / accounts
French term or phrase:compte collectif non joint
This expression appears in a list of types of bank accounts:
"Les comptes collectifs:
- compte collectif joint
- compte collectif non joint
- compte collectif non joint avec pouvoir donné à l'un des titulatires. "
The first, I assume, would be a "joint account" in English while the third would be a joint account where power to sign and operate the account is given to one person.
But what would the second be? There were only two hits on Google for the phrase and neither link was functioning (perhaps such accounts don't exist any more). Is it an account where there are a number of account holders but not all have power to operate the account? But if that's the case, what is the difference between the second and third type of account?
By the way, if the Google link doesn't work, try clicking on the Cached link as it stores an out of date copy of the page.

Asker: I wondered if it might be a "joint signatory account", i.e. an account requiring all holders to sign, but from what I can find, a "compte joint" can be set up for either one or all holders to sign. So that doesn't seem to be the distinguishing feature. I'll try the cached link as you suggest. Thanks.
compte collectif: joint account
Expression désignant un compte ouvert aux noms de plusieurs titulaires.
compte joint/compte conjoint: joint account
tout ceci est vraiment confus. J'espère que tu pourras en tirer quelque chose

Asker: I'm also confused! But I don't think the "compte collectif joint" and "compte indivis" are the same thing. From what I understand, with the "compte indivis" all holders must sign"(a "joint signatory account" in English) whereas a "compte joint" ("joint account") may be set up so that either individual holders or all holders can sign. So quite the distinction is between the three types of "compte collectif"still eludes me.
Explanation: If the account is held by two persons it is either or survivor (e or s). For more than two persons, say three we will call it as anyone or survivor (a or s). At present here in India, three persons are the maximum.
Here any one can sign.
