French term or phrase: matrice

I know this is usually translated as "matrix," but I'm not sure if that's the correct term here. It would be ideal to find the English version of this proposed European Commission definition of "technological auxiliaries," but I've given up after extensive searching on EU websites. It might not have been posted yet because it was proposed in March. Thanks, Karen

La substance doit être intentionnellement retirée après traitement ou traitée ou fixée sur une **matrice**, un support qui permet sa réutilisation ou son utilisation continue tout au long du process mais empêchant le transfert dans le produit fini. Cependant ceci peut conduire à la présence techniquement inévitable de résidus ou de dérivés de la substance dans le produit fini ; ceux-ci ne doivent présenter aucun risque sanitaire et n'avoir aucun rôle technologique sur le produit fini."

Explanation:
Le plus général que j'ai trouvé: il peut s'agir apparemment de téflon sur un moule anti-adhérent, d'huile sur du papier sulfurisé, de chrome sur la filière d'une extrudeuse, d'étain à l'intérieur d'une casserole, etc
Dans tous ces cas il y a fixation sur un support et absence de transfert vers la matière traitée, sauf par usure normale ou combinaison (dissolution d'huile, oxydation d'étain, etc)

A mon avis le texte français aurait pu utiliser "substrat" même si ce terme est parfois soupçonné d'anglicisme, raison peut-être du choix de "matrice"?
