the place they speak of Explanation: It's rather difficult to grasp what is meant without the broader context. Leur appréciation est personnelle = their assessment is personal, but the word "dont" (=of which) usually refers to something mentioned earlier in the text, as if this "place" is descibed prior to this sentence.
