division of property / equitable distribution

Explanation:
I presume this to be from the French "séparation des biens" (division of matrimonial property during divorce proceedings), this will refer to the English division of property regime or English equitable distribution regime. This therefore implies that there will be a judicial separation of property rights and obligations during the divorce proceedings.

agree  Bentcliff: Perhaps "...of property separation" might be less misleading, since the term "separation of property" usually corresponds to the European/Quebec "separation de biens". The Eng. system is in fact closer to the "participation aux acquêts".

Seperate property regime

Explanation:
In France, there are four matrimonial ‘regimes’ ( régime matrimonial): two communal regimes ( régime communautaire) and two ‘separatist’ regimes ( régime séparatiste).

Many countries, including Canada (Quebec), France, Italy, and Germany, have matrimonial regimes, in addition to or, in some cases, in lieu of prenuptial agreements. In these countries, a couple elects to own property under a separate property or shared property regime, either by meeting with a notary or by signing the agreement in front of the public officer that marries them.

Oops... the title should read 'Separate property regime'.
